This image depicts the merging of old and new, past and present, and the rise of plastic urbanization in the form of cars, roads and buildings. In the words of singer/songwriter Joni Mitchell, “they paved Paradise, put up a parking lot.”

  1. Thanks so much for the reminder of the Joni Mitchell track – off to listen to it again now. What a blast from the past!

    • You’re welcome. It always comes to mind b/c she wrote it when she was staying in Waikiki. She looked up at the beautiful mountains in the distance, then down at the concrete, and wrote the song. It’s a catchy tune, too.
